The Interview: How to Occupy a University? The pro-Palestine Student Occupation of Ljubljana University
From the 8th of May, 2024 a few dozen students occupied part of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) at the University of Ljubljana, demanding the institution to recognise Israel’s actions in Palestine as a genocide. After a six day occupation the Faculty accepted their demands and released a statement condemning the genocide in Palestine.
I sat down with Anja and Gaj, the activists who participated in the occupation of the FSS and who continue to organize for Palestine today. We discussed how the occupation was organized, what challenges the students faced, and what a potential organizer could learn from their experience.
